Influence of volume rolloff on tone

I recall someone mentioning that rolling off volume w/ the Sadowsky bass' volume pot does NOT influence the instruments tone as it does on a passive Fender bass for instance. Is this an accurate assessment & if so, what is the reason?

I believe it has something to do with the active preamp being a buffer or something like that. Not sure if the volume would effect anything in terms of tone in passive mode though.
