I am curious about that myself! And I have a 23 year old Sadowsky which I can say sounds amazing!  I am not the original owner of the bass (actually it was made for Steve W. Rabe, founder of SWR), so no idea what it sounded like when it was new. But compared to a Metro I had, the older Sadowsky has a better tone.

But I do know this, I also have a 1972 Fender jazz. I have yet to play a new Fender jazz that sounds anywhere near as good as my 39 year old jazz.

But honestly, that bass would sound great no matter what strings I put on! That bass has the 70's PU spacing which I think really adds to the great fretless tone.

Sadowsky basses sound incredible in the studio. The last CD I worked on I pretty much used my Metro for the whole session. It was SO easy to get a great tone, and I was plugged direct into the board. We were jammin between some takes and it was recorded. Here is a little snip-it of that Metro. Again, direct into the board and no effects.

Here is the updated rig! I like nice and simple. Give me a powerful, punchy and clean amp with a very simple straight forward eq section....and you have the Carvin B2000! 2000 Watts of pure clean power. More headroom then I would ever need! So here is my rig top to bottom:

I have a NYC Standard 4 Fretless, and I went with the '70s location for the pickups. I find it gives me a bit more of that mid growl and punch which I like for Fretless. More than the previous Fender Jazz Fretless basses I've owned.

Gettin' funky on Metro! From this weekend....

I've been pretty happy with DR Nickel Low Riders. Have them on all my basses. Was messing around with SIT Rock Brights, but they were missing something.

Roger would be glad to drill some holes and put one on your basses. LOL

That's why I keep my MV4 around for!

But that is pretty nice looking bass you have....even with that plastic thingy! Use it in good health as my Mom would say!

Your bass sound mixes well and the overall tone is to die for!  Nice playing, too!!

The only thing I'd change is either bring the drums and bass up in the mix or bring the guitar down a notch.  The guitars sound like they're popping too far out of the mix as far as loudness.

I was noodling around with me band mates in the studio and happen to record some of our jamming. I must say I was impressed on how good my new Metro records! The bass was set flat, with just a hair rolloff of the VTC and direct into the board.

The build quality, feel and sound of my new Metro MV4 is every bit as good as my two NYC basses. Yea, they generally tend to be heavier but there are light ones out there. The one I just bagged is 8.2 lbs....which works for me. I think my Metro is a stunning bass....see for yourself!
