Dough, I don't have before pics, but here is my Natural Buckeye vintage 5.... After build... The second pic is truer to the actually color. Robert Wow! That is really nice! What's the deal with the PG? How is it attached to the body? Edit: I think I can see some screws but I'm not sure...

It is really different now . With flats the P pickup sounded incredible active or passive. The J soloed sounded great but was a bit thin compare to the P. I didn't dig so much both P/J blended. Now with the Sadowsky nickels and J/J setup the bass sings regardless pickup selection. True, no fat-rich P sound, but I find this more suited to my needs and taste. But it's great to know that I have the P option if I need it.

So what I have here is the plastic. Thanks Roger for the info & quick answer! Hey Fran - this is for you, I finally decided to try the bass with the JJ configuration. I also switched from TI flats to Sadowsky Blue Nickels. M-WOW Best fretless I've ever played.

SWEEEET! I've got a standard 4 + lined ebony, natural/vintage tint + black HW in the queue that I imagine will look similar to your bass minus the PG and with 2 J pickups.
Do you have any sound clips?
No clips worth publishing yet... You should expect no less than a totally killer fretless!

Yes
I misread your post earlier. There is no way to bypass the VTC - it's a passive tone control. You can bypass the preamp. In any case, as long as a cable is inserted you're draining the battery.

I opened up the back cover and could not find any indication as to who had their hands on building this beautiful beast, so to the whole Sadowsky crew, thanks for this one, it is a keeper...
No one actually build it. On occasions, a new bass suddenly appears at the shop just like this - out of nowhere, adding a bit more to the magical touch in the shop's air. Congrats on a Beautiful Bass!

Thanks Rob, I try that next week. The bass is a killer, a P/J combination Ebony board and now with TI flats. Amazing tone and feel. I love the P pickup in passive mode with a little VTC cut. And it's your name on the backplate, what do you know...! Thanks man.

Sadowsky Basses / Sadowsky Basses / Back of the neck finish

Hey fellow Sadowholics, I need an advice. The back of my fretless neck becomes a bit sticky after couple of minuets being played. No matter how often I wipe it down with the bluetiful cloth, it always comes back. It doesn't happen at all with my other two Sad's. The finish looks the same but behaves differently. Any ideas?

Shimming the neck is simple but might not work with Sadowsky necks as for the special way they handle the upper frets. But you can always go back. Just be careful when you pull the neck out - up from the body so the neck pocket walls won't crack. There's another solution. You can take off the G string saddle and sand its bottom. You can gain almost another 1mm this way. It does take off some of the saddle's mass but I don't think you'll notice any change in tone. This however is not reversible, if you screw things up you'll need to get another saddle. Good Luck
Thanks for your reply. Can you elaborate a wee bit on the special way they handle the upper frets? When I look down the fretboard from the headstock towards the body (with neck relief set around 0.5mm or just under), I notice what looks like a slight back bow from around the 16th fret. Is this what you mean? Take a look here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kceYhy-Rng4 at 0:54. I recommend watching the full video version although I can't find it online at the moment.

Hi, usually I'd cut a little highs with the VTC and add bass & treble as needed. It all depends on where I play, what the acoustic situation is and the kind of sound suited for the song played. No golden rules really. Whatever you do You cannot get it to sound bad...

** If you want lower action..4 - 5.5/64ths with gradual increments. I can't get the action on my Metro UV70 lower than 5/64ths on the G string as the saddle bottoms out. Neck relief is currently about 0.5mm at 7th/8th frets with the first and last frets pressed down. Do I need to shim the neck pocket to enable a lower action or straighten the neck a little more? I'm not sure I actually want a lower action, but don't currently have the option. Any thoughts? Shimming the neck is simple but might not work with Sadowsky necks as for the special way they handle the upper frets. But you can always go back.
