16  Sadowsky Basses / Sadowsky Basses / Body size & shape on: December 29, 2010, 08:03:45 AM
Hi,
I was wondering if there's a difference in body size and shape between 4 and 5 strings basses - from the same model.
It looks to me that only the neck pocket is different which also changes the horns a bit. Other than that, body width & length stays the same to my eyes.
Is that correct?

If you have a deep scratch with sharp/ugly edge you can lightly send it with delicate send paper and then buff it. You'll get a smoother surface AND a relic look...
18  Sadowsky Basses / Sadowsky Basses / Re: Help with buzzing on: December 01, 2010, 10:06:14 AM
If you get buzz on open strings and on the first few frets you should probably loosen the truss rod a bit to make the neck straight.
If it is straight and you only get buzz on open strings but NOT on the first & second frets the nut might be cut too low, which is highly unlikely.
A phone call to the shop is the best thing you can do, IMO.

Is this a new pickup in this Modern 4? Could it be a new single coil design?

...  I think the longer, narrower shell looks much nicer.

Roger

I agree  Cool
Is there any change in sound compare to the older soapbars?
20  Sadowsky Basses / Sadowsky Basses / Re: changing from vol/bal to vol/vol on: November 10, 2010, 01:49:58 AM
And I always cut the volume between songs. I find very unproffesional to play or let my instrument make noises while the other guys are tuning/getting ready for the next song. Being a musician, I love silence.  Cheesy

I agree it is better to have control over the output signal with only one knob. I also like silence..
It all comes down to what is most important to you. You get used to the rest.

I think It really depends on your playing style and situation. Most of my gigs are small jazz setups. I find myself changing the pickup balance almost every tune, more than once.
It's not set and forget, and V/V works better for me it that situation. I used to have it on a Dean Jeff Berlin bass and I'm happy to have it again with a serious bass  Grin
Besides, it was nice to have the 500K pots installed finally. The sound is a bit different and I like it.
22  Sadowsky Basses / Sadowsky Basses / Re: changing from vol/bal to vol/vol on: November 09, 2010, 10:39:35 AM
Hey Fran,

Two reasons:
1. I think you get more control over that difficult 70-30% area with two volume pots. With a balance knob each pickup receives only 50% of the knob action from 0 to 100. A dedicated volume knob provides full knob action from 0 to100 thus more control.
2. With Vol/Bal each signal, from each pickup, passes through two potentiometers. With Vol/Vol it only goes through one - less components for the signal to pass through.

It's kind of IMO here so I may be completely wrong.

Done with great results!

LOL,
Maybe I should have but I couldn't resist.
Unfortunately, my English is not polished enough to really nail stuff down. If this was in Hebrew there was a lot of smoke left behind my posts  Grin
Anyway, no stupid thread can change the true facts. I'm out of there...

Robert,

I did get the pots from you. I'll have to enlarge the hole for the second volume pot, the first one is OK.
I think I'll use your wires - disconnect from the current pots and re solder (by the diagram) to the new ones.
I'll do my best to keep it neat & clean as I got it  Cheesy

Thanks,
Ronen

Hi,
I'm thinking to convert my NYC std 4 to vol/vol configuration. I looked at the onboard preamp installation sheet but I think there's one connection missing on the vol/vol side  Huh
I also have a couple of new 500K pots. Are these in use today with the Vol/Vol setup?

Thanks
Ronen
27  Sadowsky Basses / Sadowsky Basses / Re: Is there a preferred Straplock for Sadowsky basses? on: October 29, 2010, 06:11:36 AM
I've used the Schallers for many years and never had any problem, they're very reliable.
These days I'm using only Dunlop lockers since both my NYC Sads and another brand bass that I have, all came with it stock. After changing straps a few times the little clip holder came loose and the strap came off in the middle of a rehearsal. I tightened it back but I have to say I'm not 100% trusting it now.
28  Sadowsky Basses / Sadowsky Basses / Re: Hardware question on: October 20, 2010, 01:08:18 AM

That one can't be so current as it hasn't got the VTC

You're right, but the bridge is the current model. That comes to show that only a small fraction of the early Metros used NYC bridges.

Thanks Timothy Smiley

Yes---I was sending bridges to Japan before we began our production overseas.

Roger

Although probably meaningless it's still nice to know...
Thanks.

Hey, the MV5 is mine:)

Serial: M416

It is available in the FS section on talkbass.com and basschat.co.uk  Wink

I wasn'te even aware of the difference. I'll have to check on my brand new UV5

Yes it's yours, and it's beautiful. Keep it  Cool
30  Sadowsky Basses / Sadowsky Basses / Hardware question on: October 18, 2010, 02:41:11 AM
Hi,

I've noticed that on early Metro basses the bridge plate corners are rounded - like on a NYC bridge. On newer Metros the corners are sharp.
Did early Metros use NYC bridges/hardware?

Here's a current Metro:

Here's an early one:

Thanks
Ronen
